Columbian and Venezuelan coal:where to now?

The US market has been accounting for 25 per cent of Colombian exports and 30 per cent from Venezuela. That’s one third of their coal exports into the US. So for South American producers, US imports are now a major influence.

This year’s CoalTrans Americas Conference - held once again in Cartagena, Colombia - drew together the main players in the Atlantic and Americas coal trade. The general mood was much more subdued this year, as reports proceeding the conference spoke of rapidly rising stocks and big fall in exports to the US....
