Demand for Russian coal from Asia-Pacific countries means heavy investment in RFE ports.
Russia’s biggest dedicated coal handling terminal in Vostochniy has been operating above installed capacity for a number of years. The port accounts for most of the 16mtpa of coal exported through Russian Far East (RFE) ports, but Russian miners, encouraged by rising coal prices, already want to export at least 20mtpa to Asia-Pacific countries. Asian-Pacific demand for coal is forecast to grow to 320mtpa by 2010 and Russia’s export facilities today cannot cater for demand on this scale....
