Once deemed to be a ‘dirty’ fuel, coal has been put back in to the energy limelight thanks to clean coal technology. Coal’s key position in tomorrow’s diverse generating mix now seems certain.
Clean coal is widely acknowledged to be the answer to our energy needs. Governments and coal industries worldwide are investing in research and development projects in clean coal technology (CCT) to improve the environmental performance of coal and so strengthen its position in meeting future global energy demands and stringent emissions targets. Even Friends of the Earth, the environmental campaign group which has previously spoken against fossil fuels, agrees that coal will have a part to play in future electricity generation with the adoption of new clean burn technology at power plants....
