While coal volumes moving through EMO are currently steady, German mine closures and new Dutch power stations look set to increase traffic in the short-term, encouraging a heavy round of investment to take place.
Although throughput at Dutch coal terminal Europees Massagoed Overslagbedrijf (EMO) rose only marginally last year to 34.9 mt from 33.9 mt during 2006, and coal handled dipped slightly by 1.7% to 20.3 mt, the company put in a strong financial performance. Coal throughput may have dropped somewhat, but this was more than compensated for by iron ore transhipment which increased by 9.8% to 14.6 mt....
