The market for coal in the Czech Republic and its Central European neighbours is somewhat isolated from the global coal market. Due to its landlocked nature, the region represents a largely localised market for coal.
The Czech Republic and Poland both have significant quantities of coal, the single most abundant fossil fuel in the region. Coal is the most prevalent energy source in these countries; in the Czech Republic it currently accounts for approximately 44% of primary energy demand, followed by oil at about 23%, gas at 18% and nuclear with an approximate 14% market share....
