Is this the end of the golden era for Russian coal?
The global economic slump is causing concern for Russia’s coal sector, with a forecast drop in the nation’s exports threatening mining job losses and company closures.
According to its director general Vladimir Dronov, YakutUgol - the largest coal producer in Russia’s Far East - is planning to reduce its 2009 output by 28% to 8.6 mtpa, almost the same volume reported for 2005 (8.9 mtpa)....
