Port of Amsterdam well positioned to handle growth in coal imports
Germany’s phasing out of its coal mines will result in an increase in coal imports, providing new opportunities for the ARA ports. The Port of Amsterdam’s investment programme will ensure it is ready for the forecast growth in demand.
The Port of Amsterdam reports that it saw continued strong performance during 2008, with coal volumes reaching 17.3 mt, a slight increase from the 17.2 mt handled the previous year. While this could be viewed as a minor growth, it is good news for Amsterdam at a time when other ports in the Hamburg-Le Havre range are reporting a fall in volume throughput due to the economic recession....
