The Amsterdam Port Area (consisting of the Ports of Velsen/ IJmuiden, Beverwijk, Zaanstad and Amsterdam) reports that it continued its strong performance in 2008. The cargo throughput rose by 4% from 87.4 mt in 2007 to 90.9 mt in 2008. The Port of Amsterdam can take credit for most of the expansion. Here, the cargo throughput increased by 7% from 67.9 mt in 2007 to 72.4 mt in 2008.
These preliminary figures were announced by Hans Gerson – CEO of the Port of Amsterdam. “The very strong performance achieved in the first ten months could not be maintained in the last two months. But over the whole year, we fared remarkably well in comparison to other ports in the Hamburg-Le Havre range. That applies in particular to the Port of Amsterdam itself....
