Interest in South Africa’s Waterberg Basin coal fields continues to grow. Although the area contains a large proportion of the country’s untapped coal reserves, its relatively isolated location, the lack of railway capacity and plentiful supplies of coal on the established Mpumalanga fields have thus far deterred development.
