In May last year the UK Port of Blyth announced plans for renewable energy developers Renewable Energy Systems (RES) to develop a 100MW biomass power station on the site of the former Bates Colliery. The scheme would cost upwards of £200M requiring the import of up to 0.5 mtpa of wood chip and pallet biomass.
In December RES and the port issued a joint statement that the proposed facility would be switched to the port’s modern bulk terminal at Battleship Wharf....
