SA derailment – but exports not affected

South Africa's state-owned Transnet Freight Rail has said that 55 wagons of export coal derailed in the KwaZulu Province on 26 January, blocking two railway lines which link mines to the Richard's Bay Coal Terminal.

Transnet Freight Rail spokesman Mike Asefovitz said that the accident would not have an impact on coal shipments as coal stock piles at the Richards Bay Coal Terminal are high.

Recovery teams are on site and the line is scheduled to reopen within 40 hours, Asefovitz said.
