Illawarra Coke Company (ICC), the only independent coke producer in Australia, has confirmed that it will suspend coke production from its Coalcliff & Corrimal cokeworks for an indefinite period.
Both plants will be put on care & maintenance at the end of production. There is a sufficient stockpile of coke for commitments to customers.
ICC is a major supplier of metallurgical and foundry coke to Australian and overseas base metals producers for lead and zinc smelting and iron production for steel making. For the past five years it has exported three-quarters of its coke.
Both its Coalcliff and Corrimal Cokeworks are located adjacent to major transport systems which also link with the Port Kembla Coal Terminal for handling shipments to export customers.
